KARACHI, April 1: Former Pakistan football team head coach Akhtar Mohiuddin has accepted the job of coaching the PMC Athletico Faisalabad team during the 21st NBP National Football Challenge Cup (NFCC) to take place in Faisalabad from April 14 to 27.

“We are delighted to have him coach our team and expect him to produce great results during the tournament.

“This appointment shows the ambition of PMC Athletico Faisalabad, as we strive to become the top football club in Pakistan,” said PMC Athletico President Saif Bhatti while expressing his delight at getting his first choice for the position.

Akhtar last coached the Pakistan football team during the 16th Asian Games at Guangzhou, China, following which the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) replaced him with the more qualified and experienced Tariq Lutfi.

Earlier, he was the coach of the team from 2007 to 2008. Hailing from Chaman, he also coaches the impressive Quetta Zohrawar team in the Super Football League. He will be joining the team in Faisalabad from April 3.

This year's NFCC competition features 16 teams:

KRL, Wapda, Army, NBP, KPT, PIA, Navy, KESC, HBL, Pak Elektron Limited, PTV, PAF, SSGC, Police, Railways and PMC Athletico Club Faisalabad.—Agencies
