RAWALPINDI, March 17: Three traffic wardens were booked by the police on the charges of beating and injuring a motorbike rider at GPO Chowk, Saddar on Wednesday night.

One of the accused traffic wardens Nadeem Khan Niazi was arrested while the police launched a hunt for his two accomplices who had been still at large.

Suleman Idris Qazi, a photographer, said that he along with his brother was going home on his motorbike on Wednesday night. At GPO Chowk traffic signal, he stopped the bike seeing the light turned yellow but he had crossed the stop line. At this, a traffic warden deployed there shouted at him and also used abusive language against him.

Suleman Idrees said that he forbade the traffic warden to use foul language against him. He said if he had violated the traffic rule, he would have been given a ticket and the abusive language had no justification.

He said at this the traffic warden Nadeem Khan Niazi unfastened his belt and began to beat him. Two other wardens who were standing across the road also rushed to their colleague's help and started beating him.

A large number of people gathered there and condemned the highhandedness of the traffic wardens in strong words. Later, the people managed to cool down the matter.

Suleman Qazi who got deep wounds on the left of his face was removed to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical examination. After the medico-legal report, he got the case registered at the Cantonment police station against the traffic wardens. Senior traffic police officials tried their best to stop registering the case against their staff members. Meanwhile, the police had rounded up one of the accused traffic wardens.

SSP (Operation) Yaseen Farooq said whoever tried to take the law into his hand would be brought to justice.

Meanwhile, a young girl was shot dead apparently in the name of honor by her step-brother in Pirwadhai area on Thursday, police said. Ms Misbah, 25, was killed while sleeping by her step brother Asif Ali who later escaped from the scene.
