KARACHI, Feb 23: A young man was shot dead and his brother wounded when an unidentified man fired at them in a Gulshan-i-Iqbal locality on Wednesday, police said. They said that the two brothers — 25-year-old Noman and 28-year-old Jehanzeb — were returning home at around 1.30pm in Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Block 13-A where the unidentified man was already present.

The police said that the two brothers had some conversation with the man who took out a pistol and fired at Noman. Jehanzeb tried to overpower the suspect, but he also fired a single shot at him and escaped on his motorcycle.

Both the wounded brothers were rushed to a nearby private hospital where Noman was declared dead on arrival. He suffered multiple bullet wounds in the chest and abdomen while Jehanzeb sustained a minor wound in the leg.

Gulshan SP Naeem Sheikh told Dawn that initial investigations showed that about a week ago victim Noman had had a dispute with a suspect in Gulistan-i-Jauhar and afterwards the suspect came to his house twice or thrice, but Noman was not at home.

He said that so far neither the nature of the dispute nor the identity of the suspect was clear. The police said that the victim’s father was rushing back to Karachi from Saudi Arabia. “We are waiting for the family to lodge an FIR and nominate whoever they wish to,” said the duty officer at the Aziz Bhatti police station.
