GUJRAT, Jan 20: Civil judge-cum-judicial magistrate Fayazul Hasan on Thursday granted a four-day physical remand of seven Pakistan Muslim League-Q workers who were arrested following a clash between the Q and N factions of the PML on Wednesday.

The police claimed raids were also being conducted for the arrest of PML-N workers involved in the clash that occurred in front of the Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GTCCI).

The row erupted when some PML-Q workers, led by former district nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Husain and former minister Imran Masood, reportedly tried to hand over a disqualified PML-N MPA to the police.

The MPA was booked by the police a few days back on the orders of the Supreme Court for submitting fake academic documents to contest 2008 general election.

According to sources, some other Q workers wanted by the police have gone underground to avoid arrest.

The court also ordered medical check-up of the seven accused arrested by the Rehmania police.

Meanwhile, the Civil Lines police late on Wednesday night registered another case against 10 PML-Q men for allegedly assaulting and torturing injured PML-N workers Irfan Butt and Afaq Ahmed at the gate of Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital.

The case has been registered against Adnan Naseem Sethi, Siddique Butt, the brother of PML-Q city president Haneef Haideri, Meher Farooq Khalid, the personal secretary of the former Gujrat district nazim, Muhammad Rafique, Salman, Bilal Haider and others under sections 506 and 186 of the PPC.

The police said Haideri, his brother Siddique Butt and some of their nephews were also nominated in a case for attacking and ransacking the district bar association offices in June 2005.

Pakistan People's Party leader and Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar and Jamaat-i-Islami local leaders in their separate statements have deplored the incident. UoG:

The University of Gujrat will soon start a four-year programme in hotel and restaurant management on its Hafiz Hayat Campus.

The degree programme designed by the Institute of Hotel and Restaurant Management will focus on education related to Front Office, Kitchen, Restaurants, Housekeeping and Sales and Marketing Management.

It will also include field trips and internships at reputable hotels and restaurants.
