ISLAMABAD, Jan 19: Secretary Narcotics Tariq Khosa retired from service on Wednesday but he would continue to represent the country in Interpol as a member of its executive council.

In his 38 years of service he served on many important posts including Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Director General National Police Bureau, and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police in many divisions.

During a farewell ceremony, Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Arbab Muhammad Zahir lauded the services of Mr Khosa. The function was attended by federal secretaries and senior officers of Police Services of Pakistan.

“Tariq Khosa is a man known for his commitment and hard work. He worked with devotion and profound sincerity during his stay at Ministry of Narcotics Control. His services are widely acknowledged by international community,” the minister said.

Pakistan replaced India last year in Interpol executive council when Mr Khosa was made its member for the period of three years.

During his tenure as secretary narcotics, Mr Khosa formulated new Anti-Narcotics Policy 2010 which was approved by federal cabinet in July 2010 which replaced old policy of 1993. He established ANF Academy for capacity building of Anti-Narcotics Force which has become a centre of excellence.
