CHAKWAL, Dec 28: The court on Tuesday handed over the alleged killer of stepson to police on three-day physical remand while sending Saiqa, the child’s mother, to jail, official told Dawn on Tuesday.

“We have got three days remand of Yaqub, 25, from the court while Saiqa was sent to Jhelum Jail,” District Police Officer Syed Ali Mohsin told Dawn.

The DPO also confirmed that Saiqa had not married Yaqub but has been living with him for the last few months.

“Preliminary investigation and medical report confirms that Yaqub had strangled his stepson after molesting him,” the DPO said.

The DPO also warned the owners of the hotels to keep check on the visitors. “It has been observed that many unwanted elements stay at the hotels. We would take strong action against the owners of the hotels if they failed to check on their customers activities,” he warned.

Meanwhile, the little Samran Ali was buried in his native village Odhwal amid moving scenes. His body was handed over to his grandmother and uncle.

Officials said that Samran’s father Sajid Mehmood, Pakistan Navy personnel, was out of the country.

In another related development, the DPO removed Dumman SHO, Inspector Sahukat for his poor performance. “Those who failed to check crime in their area would not be allowed to hold the office of the SHO,” the DPO warns police officer.
