RAWALPINDI: In a bid to clear Adiala Road from encroachment, the district administration has identified more than 200 “permanent” structures on the road for their removal to clear the artery’s 66-foot right of way with the drive all set to begin on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema had asked the district land revenue department to conduct a fresh survey and identify the permanent structures to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

He asked the officials to kick-start the drive against encroachments from Monday and issue final notices to the owners of the illegal buildings, asking them to vacate the premises voluntarily by Monday.

Saddar Assistant Commissioner Almas Sabeeh visited the site and informed the locals about the operation.

A senior official told Dawn that the anti-encroachment drive was launched last week but due to the reservations of political stakeholders, the administration had decided to conduct a fresh survey. He said the district administration decided to conduct a fresh survey of the area as per the land revenue department record to get Adiala Road free from permanent and temporary encroachments.

He said that the Punjab government also made a plan to spend Rs2.850 billion to reconstruct the road from Kutchery Chowk to Adiala Jail in the upcoming fiscal year.
