LARKANA, Nov 28: Larkana would soon have a fully-fledged campus of Quaid-i-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology (Quest), its Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ali Bakhsh Soomro said.

Addressing a ceremony held at the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology for awarding degrees, he said that 250 acres of land near Arija town on the Airport road had been allocated for the campus.

Construction work would start soon, he said, adding that the campus would be later converted into a university.

The Quaid-i-Awan Engineering College has become functional with an initial enrolment of more than 200 students in different disciplines.

Describing the Quest and Szabist as the brainchild of Z.A. Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, he said they were sister organisations.

Prof Soomro said that most of the students who had completed 18-month diploma courses at the Larkana campus of Szabist were girls and stressed the need of encouraging girls to go for higher education.

Abdul Razzak Soomro, a member of the board of trustees of Szabist and financial controller of its Larkana campus, stressed importance of the Job Skill Training Centre (JSTC).

Sarfraz Hussain Abbasi, principal of the training centre, said that at present the JSTC was imparting training in information technology, marketing, human resources, media and other disciplines.

The vice-chancellor awarded diplomas to more than 200 students who have completed training at the centre.
