MIANWALI, Aug 8 People feared another flood with an increase in water discharge from Jinnah and Chashma barrages on Sunday. The people displaced from the Kacha area were returning to their homes after the floodwater receded, but the increasing water level forced them once again to find safe places.

According to the local flood control centre, water discharge from Chashma Barrage was 577,120 cusec in the morning and 743,318 cusec in the evening, whereas the water discharge from Jinnah Barrage was 562,086 cusec in the morning and 567,380 cusec in the evening. The centre forecast further increase in the water level after heavy rains in the upstream area.

The River Kabul, River Sawan and many hill torrents below Tarbela add to the swelling River Indus near Jinnah Barrage besides the water out flowing from Tarbela Dam. Emergency fighters in the district have been alerted to handle any eventuality.

Also, the chief minister cancelled his visit to Mianwali because of bad weather.

PAF PAF Base Wing Commander Abdul Basit said the Air Headquarters had sent relief goods worth Rs2.2 million. These goods would be distributed by PAF teams in collaboration with the district administration.
