Gilgit power plan okayed

GILGIT, Aug 24: The government is taking concrete measures to provide electricity to the residents of Northern Areas and numerous power projects are being launched throughout the area, sources said here on Saturday.

They said the government had approved a power scheme in the vicinity of Gilgit city at Bargo, about 50km from here.

This scheme, the sources said, would cost Rs20 million and would generate 200kv electricity.

The programme would meet the needs of power on the outskirts of Gilgit city. After completion it would provide electricity to Sharote, Shikyote, Tholedas, Bargo Pine, Bargo Bala, Thingi and Kashgar Baiq. —APP
