KASUR, Sept 1 A 100-foot breach in Noorpur canal caused by a heavy rain spell on Monday night damaged crops on hundreds of acres at Bheela Hithar, Baghkot and Sahd villages in Sheikhum police precincts.

Reports said Noorpur canal overflowed on Monday night due to heavy rain in the area. As a result crops on more than 500 acres were damaged in Bheela Hithar, Baghkot and Sahd villages.

An embankment was erected on the canal early morning to save the villages from further damage.

ELECTROCUTED A woman and her mother-in-law were electrocuted while using a water tap here on Tuesday at Ali Park in Sadar police limits.

Reports said Sajida Bibi, wife of Muhammad Naeem, was preparing Sehr meal for the family when she received a shock at a water tap.

Her mother-in-law, Rani Bibi, was also electrocuted in a bid to rescue Sajida. The family did not contact the police for case.

ACCIDENT A head-on collision between a motorcycle and a van claimed the life of one of the motorcyclists while the other sustained serious injuries here on Tuesday at Changa Manga on Kot Radha Kishan Road.

Abdul Sattar and Muhammad Afzal were on their way home on a motorcycle (LWC-2671) from Changa Manga to Kot Radha Kishan. Near Bhoay Aasal in Changa Manga police precincts, a speeding van (LWC-5673) coming from opposite side hit the motorcycle.

As a result Abdul Sattar was killed on the spot while Afzal sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kot Radha Kishan hospital.
