LAHORE, July 15: Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has ruled out any disciplinary action against Aisam ul Haq on his pairing Amir Hadad in the doubles of Wimbledon recently.

“No action will be initiated against Aisam and we strongly dismiss any such rumours that he will be facing a possible ban for pairing Aamir,” said a high official of the PTF while talking to APP Monday.

Aisam faced a threat of a possible ban while associating with an Israeli player in the Wimbledon and the pair reached the third round of the event, making Aisam the first ever Pakistani player to progress to such a level of the championship.

He confirmed that International Tennis Federation (ITF) has written a letter to PTF which stated that any move to punish Aisam would result in sanctions on PTF by games ruling body and Pakistan would be barred from taking part in the Davis Cup ties.

Aisam has also been a key player to play a decisive role in Pakistan’s win in the Davis Cup matches home or aborad. Pakistan has qualified for the Group one final of Asia Oceania of Davis Cup and will face China in a home tie which will be played at Peshawar later in September-October.

“Aisam is an asset to Pakistan tennis and has introduced the country globally through his encouraging performance in Wimbledon,” he said and added “his contributions will further help in promoting tennis.”

PTF official said Aisam has recently stated that he was considering changing his partner in the US Open to boost his performance as he has been approached by high ranking doubles players to join them as a doubles partner in futures events including US Open.

Aisam who created tennis history in Pakistan has improved his doubles ranking to 120 from 168.

“ It is a player’s own prerogative to chose his doubles partner on international circuit and PTF cannot force any player to pick or drop his partner but we have to take care of certain aspects,” he said.

When contacted, Aisam father, Ihtesham ul Haq Qureshi, confirmed that PTF has also assured them for not initiating any action against Aisam.

“PTF has praised the performance of Aisam in Wimbledon and expressed the hope that he will continue bringing laurels for the country,” he said.—APP
