LAHORE, June 7 An elderly doctor was gunned down allegedly by his son, also a doctor, over property dispute at Mustafa Town (Hanjarwal) on Sunday.

Prof Dr Zulfikar Ahmad, 65, of Mamdot Block, received two bullets and died instantly.

The police inquiries revealed that Dr Zulfikar's son Dr Imran Ahmad had been asking his father to register the double-storey one-kanal house in his name as he wanted to establish a clinic there, but his father refused.

Imran, who was annoyed with his father also over the latter's second marriage, would often quarrel with him.

According to the SHO, Dr Zulfikar was teaching at the Bahria University Islamabad and his second wife had been living in his Lahore home after the death of his first wife from whom he had two children.

Saqib Aleem, a nephew of Dr Zulfikar, told Dawn that Imran had remained admitted to a mental hospital in the past for psychological problems.

“My uncle fulfilled all his requirements but did not want to hand over the property to him for his psychological problems and carefree attitude,” he said.

He added that Imran, who habitually consumes sleeping pills, also got prepared fake documents of his father's home a few days back. He said the deceased had no child from his second wife.

Meanwhile, the police registered a case against Imran who absconded after the incident. The body was shifted for a postmortem examination.
