LAHORE, Nov 1: An accountability court on Thursday remanded Pakistan Muslim League acting president Makhdum Javed Hashmi in National Accountability Bureau’s custody on a 14-day remand.

The former federal health minister was arrested by the NAB on Wednesday on charges of corruption and acquiring assets disproportionate to his declared income.

According to the NAB Mr Hashmi’s assets include 35 per cent shares in Al-Makhdum Cotton Factory, Multan, valued at Rs200,000; 20 per cent shares in Zahid Daal Factory, Multan, worth Rs100,000; shares in Ad Age Advertisers (Private) Limited, Islamabad, valued at Rs300,000; plot No 146, Gulshan-i-Wahid, Multan, worth Rs170,000; a plot at Daurana Langna village in Multan, worth Rs100,000; bungalow No 50 on Qasim Road, Multan Cantonment, measuring 1.12 acres worth Rs8.7 million; bungalow No 22-C, Street No 19, F-6, Islamabad, measuring 1,200 square yards; 43 acres of agricultural land in Kot Addu in Muzaffargarh district, valued at Rs1 million; one-third shares in a bungalow and a dera at Mauza Ghariyala, Multan Cantonment, measuring 1.12 acres, valued at Rs1.1 million; two Pajero jeeps (LHM-533 and GAH-300) valued at Rs1.5 million and Rs1.75 million.

He is also accused of misusing his authority as a minister by making illegal appointments in his department.

Mr Hashmi rejected the allegations. He said the value of assets attributed to him was exaggerated. He also said he had sold the bungalow No 22-C at Islamabad and a Pajero jeep (GAH-300) and denied having shares in Zahid Daal Factory.

He said the NAB action amounted to political victimization. He also said he had himself provided details of his assets to the Bureau.

He alleged that the NAB officials had harassed him and his family and accused them of bias against him.

The special prosecutor said there were more allegations regarding assets and bank accounts which needed to be probed.

NICFC: A court remanded one Zulfiqar Husain in NAB custody for 14 days.

The NAB alleged that Mr Husain had misappropriated Rs77.71 million in connivance with the directors of the National Industrial Cooperative Finance Corporation.
