SIALKOT, April 3: The Punjab government has fixed the wheat procurement target for the district to 600,000 bags which will be enhanced to 800,000 with time.

This was stated by Sialkot District Coordination Officer (DCO) Capt Zahid Saeed (retired) at a special meeting here on Wednesday.

Chairing the meeting, district Nazim Mian Naeem Javed directed the local food department authorities to evolve strategy for procuring wheat direct from the growers on the supporting price.

The officials urged the growers to bring adulteration-free wheat yield to the procurement centres.

The food department’s officials informed the participants that around 300,000 gunny bags were available before fresh harvest. They said every grower would be able to get 200 gunny bags each on the recommendation of local councillor at Rs50 per bag from the food department.

A bumper wheat crop was expected this season, they concluded.

DUTY DRAWBACK RULES: The government has introduced ‘Duty and Tax Remission for Export Rules, 2002,’ for early solution of duty drawback and rebate problems being faced by the exporters and importers.

This was stated by Gujranwala circle Customs collector Raza Baqar at a meeting of business community at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Wednesday.

Mr Baqar said the government would soon announce an incentives package for the business community as it was committed to injecting new life into the sick economy.

He urged the businessmen to register their firms by the end of June for getting benefits from the newly introduced rules.

He said on the strong demand of the business community, the CBR has withdrawn the SRO-410 to give relief to the traders community.

ZAKAT: At least Rs20.2 million zakat will be distributed among 22,310 deserving families during the current fiscal year in the Sialkot district.

This was stated by Sialkot district Baitul Maal chairman Dr Muhammad Aslam Dar while talking to newsmen here on Wednesday.

He said the Baitul Maal would also distribute Rs0.6 million as educational scholarships among the deserving students.
