THATTA, April 29: A group of fishermen observed a token hunger strike to press there demand for abolition of the contract system on the Keenjhar Lake and the Indus Delta here on Friday.

Speaking at the hunger strikers’ camp, set up in front of the Thatta Press Club, Adam Gandro, Imam Bux Mirani, Faqeer Razzaq Unnar and others said that a few months back, a fish contractor has forcibly occupied the Keenjhar Lake and unleashed reign of terror.

They demanded early abolition of the contract system in the Keenjhar and Indus Delta.

They said they will launch a protest movement for acceptance of fishermen’s demands and restoration of their rights...Ends.

KILLED Mohammad Kachhi Soomro was killed and five others sustained injuries in a clash on a petty matter near the Branch Mori, Thatta.

Police said Mohammad Kachhi was killed and five others namely Zakaria, Karo, Gul Hassan, Ghafoor and Aamoon sustained injuries.

The motive behind the scuffle is said to be a petty matter. Thatta police have registered a case.

ROBBERY: Dozens of motorists staged a sit-in for two hours following a robbery incident on Thatta-Badin highway in early hours of Friday.

Five robbers, equipped with guns and sticks, deprived motorists of their cash and valuables and fled in a Mazda truck snatched from Ashraf Junejo.

Police sources said the robbery incident took place some 45 kilometres off Thatta near Dewan city.

The robbers went on snatching valuables for three hours, putting barricades on the highway. On reaching a police mobile, they escaped.
