GUJRANWALA, Feb 5: Four robbers shot and killed a man and injured six others, including a woman, in Gorunana village on Saturday.

The outlaws sneaked into the house of Ghulam Qasim by scaling boundary wall. They were collecting cash and gold jewellery when a guest Masoodur Rehman of Azad Kashmir and family members raised an alarm and tried to overpower them.

The robbers became unnerved and opened fire on them, killing Masood on the spot while Ghulam Qasim, Tasawar, Imtiaz, Ghulam Jilani, Noor Zaman and woman Shazia sustained bullet injuries. They were taken to the civil hospital in critical condition.

Some villagers followed the fleeing outlaws and reportedly caught one of the outlaws and handed him over to police.

When contacted, police did not reveal the identity of the alleged robber.

ILLEGAL DETENTION: A bailiff recovered three youth from Qila Dedar Singh police station lock-up who were detained there for the last one week.

A district and sessions judge appointed the bailiff on an application by the families of Rashid, Gulzar and Kashif.

They said police arrested the youth from their houses at the behest of their rival and detained them in the lock-up without registering a case against them.

The court summoned the police station SHO and investigating officer on next date of hearing on Feb 7.
