LAHORE, Oct 24: Police on Sunday killed a man allegedly involved in the killing of the Narowal district police officer in an "encounter".

DPO Tayyab Saeed was killed in an encounter with the criminals whose hideout he had raided in Narowal some months ago. One of his alleged killers escaped from the scene of crime had been identified as Jafar Husain.

According to the Kot Lakhpat police, one of its patrol party got a wireless message that two gunmen had snatched a motorcycle owned by Arshad at Shami Chowk in Chungi Amar Sadhu. The police chased the gunmen and rounded them up near the Arab Housing Scheme on Ferozpur Road. The armed men allegedly opened fire which was retaliated. In the crossfire, one of the outlaws was killed while the other managed his escape.

The dead man was identified as Jafar Husain. His body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy. Two automatic weapons are said to have been recovered from the spot.

It was the third encounter in the city in two days. A policeman was killed in a shootout allegedly with an extortionist, Naveed Lumbiwala, late Friday night. He together with two accomplices was killed in yet another "encounter" in Shahdara on Saturday night.

ARRESTED: Police claimed on Sunday to have arrested 11 members of two gangs of robbers. The city division police investigation wing claimed that they had apprehended four robbers and seized booty worth Rs2.9 million, including three stolen vehicles. They have been identified as Maqsood, Mushtaq, Rafiq and Saddiq.
