GUJRANWALA: One-hour daily outage

Published October 18, 2004

GUJRANWALA, Oct 17: The Wapda has started loadshedding for one hour during night at all grid stations of 132KV feeders with the advent of Ramazan.

The Islamabad national power control centre has taken the step despite the assurance held out by the water and power ministry and Wapda chairman that no loadshedding would be done in Ramazan.

Source said here on Sunday that Hafizabad, Alipur Chattha, Qila Dedar Singh, Gujranwala, Wazirabad and Ghakkhar and their suburban areas were affected due to loadshedding.

Consumers protested against the loadshedding and demanded that the authority behind the loadshedding should be exposed.

When contacted, the grid station officers confirmed that the loadshedding was being done at night hours on the directive of Islamabad national power control centre.

THRASHED: A three-member Wapda recovery team was thrashed by a defaulter and his men in Sadhoki on Saturday.

The Wapda team went to the village of defaulter Iqbal to recover outstanding dues. But Iqbal and his supporters beat them with clubs. Kamoki police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating.

BISE TIMINGS: The board of intermediate and secondary education issued a notification on Saturday regarding Ramazan timings.

According to the BISE secretary, the office timing will be from 8am to 1pm on Monday to Thursday and Saturday. The office will open at 8am and close at 12 noon on Friday.
