HARIPUR, Aug 21: At least 250 community-citizen boards (CCBs) had been registered in Haripur, while 30-lus were under-going registration process, sources told Dawn here on Saturday.

Official sources revealed that of these 250 CCBs, 20 were formed and run by women, while the rest had considerable representation of womenfolk.

It was informed that encouraged by Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment (DTCE), the Haripur district witnessed a momentum in this regard and during the last two months the number of CCBs registered with Haripur district was more than any other parts of Hazara.

A number of CCBs have also started functioning and proposed development schemes in their respective areas.

To this effect, CCB of village Akhoon Bandi was the first one, which invested 20 per cent of the total cost of Rs1 million for a bridge project on river Dour. While others at village Jatti Pind and Mohalla Roshan Abad have proposed water supply schemes and vocational training centre for women in different union councils.

The Haripur community development office has reportedly forwarded all four CCBs-oriented uplift schemes to the DCO and union councils concerned.

As required under the LGO 2001, each tier of the district government would set aside 25 per cent of its total development budget for CCBs-specific uplift schemes.
