GUJRANWALA, July 24: On the directions of the Punjab government, the district administration has constituted two special teams for conducting raids at theatres to curb vulgarity and obscenity.
A source said here on Saturday that the Punjab chief-secretary held a meeting with the district officials at his office in Lahore and expressed dismay over the increasing trend of vulgarity in theatres of Gujranwala and ordered formation of two monitoring teams in this regard.
The teams, headed by district officer (revenue) Syed Najam Ahmad Shah and deputy district officer Usman Ali Khan, have been directed to ensure the inspection of all theatres in the city and submit their report on daily basis.
Meanwhile, a local court cancelled the bail of three women dancers who were booked by police on charges of vulgar dances.
NAZIM HELD: Police on Saturday arrested a union council Nazim allegedly involved in a double-murder case.
Reports said Khawaja Afser Majid Rathore had killed former councillor Khawaja Mahmood Amjad Rathore and his gunman Muhammad Arshad over an enmity in Satellite Town some two weeks ago and escaped.
On a tip-off, the police arrested him from the Lahore General Hospital.
Three killed: As many as three people were killed in a van-truck collision here on late Friday night near Wazirabad bypass intersection on the GT road.
Reports said the truck (PRX-186) was on its way from Gujranwala to Gujrat. Near the bypass, it collided with a van laden with fruits. As a result, the van driver and two fruit traders Gul Badshah Khan and Marwat Khan died on the spot.
Police have registered a case against the absconding truck driver.
SUCCUMB TO INJURIES: A trader and a woman who were injured by dacoits on resistance some two weeks ago, died on Saturday at the Lahore Mayo Hospital.
Sakina Bibi, 80, of Model Town and Khawaja Nasir Ahmad of Church Road sustained injuries on offering resistance during dacoity attempts at their houses.
Police have registered a case and arrested one of the accused Kashif.
Lauded: The local chamber of commerce and industry has appreciated the trade policy expressing the hope that it would have a positive impact on the national economy.
Speaking at a meeting held here on Saturday, Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry acting-president Sheikh Muhammad Ali said the trade policy would enhance the exports and imports and help in the development of industries and reduction of unemployment from the country.
He said the government should provide maximum incentives to exporters for strengthening the economy.
Mr Ali lauded the trade policy under which all chambers of commerce and industry had been allowed to import material temporarily for an exhibition of products.
