Published January 18, 2004

SUKKUR, Jan 17: A walk was organized by the health department from the Ghazi Mohammad Bin Qasim Park to the Clock Tower here on Saturday to create awareness among the people about polio.

Led by Ali Bux Khan Mahar, hundreds of people, including students of the Sardar Ghulam Mohammad Khan Mahar Medical College, participated in the walk.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mahar called upon the people to cooperate with polio teams during the three-day anti-polio campaign being started from Jan 20 and vaccinate their children against the disease.

He said with coordinated efforts, polio cases had decreased by 10 per cent in Sindh, adding that Sukkur was declared a polio-free district 17 months back.

A total of 554 teams, involving representatives of NGOs and officials of health and education departments, will take part in the anti-polio drive.
