COLOMBO, May 30: A former media adviser to Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga and popular local film personality, Sanath Gunatilleke, who was wanted for questioning by investigating agencies in connection with an alleged act of arson committed almost two years ago, finally turned himself in along with his lawyer on Wednesday.

The interrogation lasted over three hours over Gunatilleke’s alleged involvement in the burning down of the house of another popular film actress, Anoja Weerasinghe, a supporter of the United National Party, the present ruling party which was then in the opposition.

Gunatilleke, who served as media adviser to the president from 1994 to 2001, was released by the police with instructions to appear at its headquarters for further questioning on Thursday.
