BANGALORE, March 25: Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh on Friday said he was unfazed on his bowling action and bowled the ‘doosra liberally’ to claim a six-wicket haul against Pakistan in the third and final cricket Test here.

“I was not thinking of International Cricket Conference ICC matter. My board is there to look after the matter. I played my game.

“I am very happy that I got six wickets. I am feeling really happy about it,” off-spinner said.

“I definitely bowled doosra and off-spin because doosra had been cleared last time and I had passed the test. I bowled openly.”

Stressing that he was not worried about having been reported again for a suspect bowling action, he said that such “small allegations” are bound to be levelled against players.

“What’s important is I am confident and believe in myself. The team and the board has supported me, and I want to thank them. I am not bothered about what’s happening”.

Meanwhile, former Indian stars Thursday took exception to the decision to persist with Harbhajan Singh in the third Test though the off-spinner had been reported for suspect bowling action by referee Chris Broad after the second Test at Eden Garden, Kolkata, last week.

Former Indian Test stars Sanjay Manjrekar, Mahinder Amarnath, Krishnamachari Srikanth and Ravi Shastri questioned the decision to include Harbhajan in the playing side.

They said the referee’s decision to report Harbhajan for suspect bowling action had affected his bowling. “He looked downcast and out of sorts from a psychological standpoint’, said Amarnath.

Srikanth said it would have been better if left-arm spinner Murli Karthik had been given a chance in place of Harbhajan who had failed to produce the customary variation in his bowling in Thursday’s play.

“He failed to bowl Doosra which was a big weapon in his armoury’, said Srikanth. Manjrekar agreed:”Without doosra, Harbhajan will not be the same bowler who has taken nearly 200 wickets in his short Test career”, he said.

While reporting the bowler for suspect bowling action, the match referee Chris Broad had specially pointed out the “15 degrees” bend of the arm Harbhajan employs.

The match referee Broad’s decision to report Harbhajan has come for indirect criticism by Indian captain Sourav Ganguly and former players like Kapil Dev.

“A naked eye cannot judge whether a bowler’s arm has bent by 15 degrees or more or less”, former Indian captain Kapil was quoted as saying.—Agencies
