Voters form to be revised

Published May 30, 2002

ISLAMABAD, May 29: The government, on the demand of religious groups, decided to revise the application form for enlistment as voters, so as to include the oath and declaration of being a Muslim.

After the re-introduction of joint electorate system for elections to the national and provincial assemblies, the pattern of application form was changed and the oath and declaration prescribed for Muslim voters was not required.

“In view of the sensitivity of the matter and to avoid any misperception the government has advised the Election Commission to revise the application form for enlistment as voters so as to include the oath and declaration of being a Muslim,” the announcement said.
