LARKANA, March 11: The leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, has said the Sindh governor should play his constitutional role and ask the chief minister to seek a fresh vote of confidence from the assembly.

He was talking to journalists at a reception hosted by People’s Party Parliamentarians’ senior vice-president Aziz Abro here on Thursday night.

He said the governor could ask the chief minister to seek a fresh vote of confidence under article 130 (5) of the 1973 Constitution.

Replying to a question about governor’s rule in Sindh, he said his party was opposed to imposition of governor’s rule in the province in the wake of the tussle between Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim and sacked minister Imtiaz Ahmad Shaikh.

He regretted that the chief minister had inducted Mr Shaikh in the provincial cabinet despite knowing his corrupt practices. He also criticized agencies for giving clearance to induction of Mr Shaikh into the cabinet.

Mr Khuhro was also critical of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz’s role in resolving the issue. He said Mr Aziz had asked the two groups to seize fire, instead of ordering an inquiry into the corruption allegations. It was not a matter between two PML leaders but a matter of siphoning off Sindh’s money, he observed.

He said corruption cases should be registered against the two leaders.

The PPP leader denied any deal between his party and the government. He called for holding fresh polls under an impartial election commission.

About construction of the Kalabagh dam and the greater Thal canal, he said the PPP was protesting against the projects from the platform of the Anti-Kalabagh Dam and Greater Thal Canal Action Committee.

About opening of the Khokhrapar border, he said three million illegal immigrants were already residing in Sindh.

MNAs Mohammad Anwar Bhutto and Hizbullah Bughio, district PPP president Ayaz Soomro, dismissed district nazim Khurshid Junejo, naib nazim Nazir Ahmad Bughio and others were also present on the occasion.

FIVE ESCAPE: Five people arrested in connection with kidnapping of a man in the Laloorounk town escaped from the Dera police post of the Nasirabad police station on Thursday night.

The Wagan police had arrested Zulfikar, Mohammad Hayat, Yar Mohammad, Ali Haidar and Wazeer Ali for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of Aaqib Rajput.

Sources said the arrested people were being grilled at the police post though no FIR was registered against them. Police had also not shown them arrested, they further said.

The accused escaped after overpowering a police constable, also taking away his official rifle.
