HYDERABAD, March 3: Twenty-three people of Chishtia and Khawja Gharib colonies received lease documents of residential plots at a ceremony held here on Wednesday.

Speaking at the ceremony in Chishtia Colony near Noorani Basti, the adviser to the Sindh chief minister on local government and katchi abadis, Mr Waseem Akhtar, said safe shelter was a basic need of people and the government was trying to provide house to every citizen.

He said the government believed in practical work rather than depending on just slogans and added that today's ownership documents distribution ceremony was an example of this.

He said the government had launched many public projects and allocated Rs7.6 million for a water scheme to resolve the water problem of Chishtia and Gharib Nawaz colonies. He said health, education, sanitation and other basic facilities would also be provided to inhabitants of these colonies.

The adviser directed the City taluka municipal officer to ensure removal of garbage in the area. He said under directives of the president, low-cost housing schemes were being launched in the province and the Sindh Kutchi Abadi Authority had identified six locations for launching such schemes.

He said the first scheme, Sasti Basti, had been launched in Kotri over an area of 13 acres with 413 plots. Such a scheme would also be launched in the Hyderabad city, he added.
