FAISALABAD, March 2: The food laboratory officer of the Tehsil Municipal Administration (City) committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan of his office here on Wednesday.

Asghar Ali was facing severe financial crunch as his salary had been stopped for the last six months due to an inquiry pending against him. He was under questioning by the Anti-Corruption Department and some other investigating agencies about the corruption of some of his superiors.

On Wednesday, he locked his office room and hanged himself with a ceiling fan. The TMA employees informed their bosses and the area police. The body was handed over to his heirs after autopsy at the Allied Hospital. Later, he was laid to rest in the graveyard of his native village 236-RB.

KIDNAPPED: Armed men allegedly kidnapped a cloth and yarn merchant for ransom in Peoples Colony here on Wednesday. Masked men intercepted the car of Arshad Mehmood when he was coming to his office.

The abductors took him away to some unknown place and demanded Rs10 million ransom from his family. The SHO confirmed that kidnappers had demanded Rs10 million ransom. However, he said the police were investigating the matter.

SI HELD: The Anti-Corruption Establishment arrested a sub-inspector for taking bribe here on Wednesday. On the complaint of Ghulam Mustafa, the ACE conducted a raid and caught red-handed SI Shaukat Ali while taking thousands of rupees in bribe.
