HYDERABAD, Feb 11: The circle officer of the Anti-Corruption Establishment, Mohammad Dawood Pirzada, accompanied by civil judge and judicial magistrate Abdul Sattar Abbasi, raided the offices of the district food controller in Mithi on Friday and seized its record.
The raid was ordered by ACE deputy director Ali Ahmed Junejo after receiving information about misappropriation of 70,000 wheat bags despatched to Tharparkar district from Sanghar for distribution among the rain-affected people. The Anti-Corruption Establishment has started an inquiry in the matter.
RESIGN: A member of the Sindh council of the People's Party Parliamentarians, Pir Zaman Shah, has announced his resignation from the party at a press conference held at his residence in Kotri on Friday.
He said that he had been neglected in the party despite the fact that he had given sacrifices for it. He added that in the absence of Benazir Bhutto, the party leadership was not ready to give any attention to him and that turncoats were being given preference. He said that he had sent his resignation to the provincial president of the PPP.
PROTEST: Residents of Ayub Colony, Latifabad-11, held a demonstration and bunt tyres at the colony's roundabout here on Thursday to protest against use of substandard material in construction of a road in the area by a contractor.
Led by councillor Mukhtar Ahmed, they blocked vehicular traffic two hours and raised slogans against use of substandard material in construction of the road near Jamia Masjid of the area. The protesters demanded arrest of the contractor and warned of continuing protest if quality of the work was not ensured.
