LARKANA, Jan 26: A procession was taken out in Qambar on Wednesday to pressure the authorities to rename the newly-created district as Qambar and another in Shahdadkot to support the government decision to name the district after Shahdadkot city.

Provincial Adviser MPA Sultan Khuhawar led the Shahdadkot procession in which people from Mirokhan, Qubo Saeed Khan and the adjoining areas also participated. The procession ended at Kotoo-Motoo Chowk where Mr Khuhawar and the leaders of the District Forum laid foundation stone of a tower marking the creation of the district carved out of Larkana district.

The adviser handed over an eight-foot-long symbolic key of the district to the leaders of the forum and asked them to protect it. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Khuhawar, Mian Atta Mohammad Siddiqi, chairman of the forum, and others called for making Shahdadkot the district headquarters.

On the other hand, the Citizens' Action Committee took out a procession in Qambar to pressurize the authorities to rename the district as Qambar and to condemn delay in the arrest of policemen involved in killing of four protesters on December 24.

Wearing black arm-bands and led by Bhaoo Dur Mohammad Buriro, Hafeez Hakro and Yusuf Brohi, the participants staged sit-in at the Bakery Chowk where their leaders made speeches. They urged the government to immediately release reports of inquiry committees about the December 24 incident.

They also criticized the taluka nazim of Qambar for allegedly selling out municipal property at throwaway price. Later, around 50 activists of the People's Party Parliamentarians, led by MPA Mujaddid Isran, observed a token hunger strike.

AG SINDH: The accountant-general of Sindh has said that he will recommend lifting of ban on recruitment on technical posts, especially those of computer operators, to the provincial government so that the information technology can be introduced in each government office.

AG Zulifquar Ali Qadri was speaking at a meeting of the district officers in the DCO Office here on Wednesday. He directed the deputy district officers to prepare official stamps with their names from February 1.
