SAHIWAL, Dec 21: Police on Tuesday registered a case against a bus driver and arrested him for 'injuring' a student. Earlier, the police had booked 19 students for 'looting' the valuables of passengers and damaging the vehicle and arrested nine.

Reports said Sharif accelerated the bus when Shahid Afzal tried to board it on Dec 13. As a result, the student fell down and his legs fractured. Later, the angry students allegedly took away valuables from the bus and damaged the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the students took out a protest procession on Tuesday demanding the release of their arrested fellows and treatment of the injured abroad. The arrested are Shakeel Bhatti, Shafiq, Bhabha, Wasim, Liaquat Dar, Zubair, Faheem Gujjar, Javed Iqbal and Amir.

PROBE: The Wapda chairman has ordered an inquiry against a Mepco line superintendent for allegedly receiving bribe from a cable operator. Sattar in his complaint to the Wapda chief alleged that Shahid Majid of Kot Khadim Ali Shah used to receive Rs15,000 a month from him. Now the Wapda issued a bill of Rs44,249. On non-payment, his meter was removed despite a stay order by court.
