GUJRANWALA, Oct 6: The Transport Society Gujranwala (TSG) has suggested that the TSG wagons should be allowed on the GT Road till the arrival of more franchized buses to resolve the public problems.
Speaking at a news conference here on Wednesday, union leaders Chaudhry Abdul Hamid, Aftab Rashed Cheema and others held the provincial transport minister and RTA secretary 'responsible' for rendering about 2,100 families jobless following withdrawal of about 600 wagons on the GT Road to benefit the franchized bus owners.
They alleged that the district administration collected Rs50 million from the TSG wagon service for providing better facilities and used the amount for paying telephone bills of the residences of transport department senior officers, providing motorcycles to Rescue-15 squad and demarcation of the GT Road.
They said the proposed extension of franchized route up to Wazirabad would be a clear violation of the agreement reached between the government and the franchized bus company.
Meanwhile, the Markazi Anjuman Tajran Ghakhar and Anjuman Talaba Islam leaders also demanded allowing wagons. They threatened to block the road if the demand was not accepted.
POLL CAMPAIGN: The election campaign in PP-93 constituency gained momentum as leaders of the ruling PML, the ARD and the MMA delivered speeches in favour of their candidates on Wednesday.
Ministers Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal and Rana Shamshad Ahmad Khan visited city and spoke at public meetings of Engineer Ashraf Butt, the son of former mayor Aslam Butt. They claimed that the opposition parties got united to get power and not to serve masses.
They appealed to the people to vote their candidate so that their problems could be resolved. Meanwhile, the ARD nominee Tariq Gujjar and MMA's Ashraf Jalali alleged that the government was sending an army of ministers for pre-poll rigging and pressurising the administration. It is learnt that MMA leaders Qazi Husain Ahmad, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and others will reach the city on Friday to address public meetings.
