RAWALPINDI, Oct 6: An accountability court here on Wednesday released an engineer of the defunct Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) in a corruption reference after he deposited Rs3.135 million with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) under plea bargain.

Sarfaraz Sheikh and a number of other RMC officials were nominated in a Rs70 million embezzlement committed during the construction of Municipal Complex. The bureau had informed the Accountability Court No III judge, Mohammad Aslam, about the plea bargain during the last hearing of the reference.

The court accepted the bargain and observed that Sarfaraz Shaikh be released after he deposited the embezzled amount with the bureau.
