BAHAWALPUR, Sept 29: The Punjab government has approved a new industrial estate for the district, according to Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry outgoing president Sheikh Abbas Raza.

Mr Raza handed over the charge of the office to newly elected president Chaudhry Abdul Sattar at a general body meeting here on Wednesday. He told the members that this new estate would be meant for setting up heavy industries. Punjab Small Industries Corporation chairman was due here shortly to discuss and finalize modalities of the estate with the chamber, he added.

Earlier, the general body was informed that Chaudhry Sattar was declared elected unopposed president and Chaudhry Bashir Ahmad (senior) and Chaudhry Abdul Samad vice-presidents. The new president assured the meeting that he would work for the improvement of the working of the chamber to industrialize Bahawalpur and other districts.

SEWERAGE: District Nazim Tariq Cheema has said more funds will be released for the completion of the Ahmedpur East sewerage project, which was expected to cost over Rs200 million. Talking to a reception of the Tehsil Bar Association and newsmen on Wednesday, he said the mega project would be completed within next two months.

KILLED: A woman was killed and 10 other passengers injured, two of them seriously, in a head-on collision between a coach and a wagon near Baghdad Morr on the Hasilpur Road on Wednesday.

According to police rescue 15, a coach (FTZ-7655) coming from Hasilpur collided head-on with a wagon (LOK-9683). A woman, who was identified as Pathani, died on the spot and 10 others hurt and shifted to hospital. Police have registered a case against the driver, who managed to escape.
