KOHAT, May 19: The Kohat police busted an inter-provincial gang of drug-traffickers and seized 81kg hashish which was to be smuggled abroad from Punjab on Wednesday. Acting on a tip-off, the Kohat SSP constituted a police party which erected a blockade near the Kohat tunnel toll plaza.

The police signalled a suspicious truck coming from Darra Adamkhel to stop. Upon search, the police recovered 81kg of high quality hashish from under the driver's seat.

The police arrested Mujeebur Rehman, a resident of Lachi town, and Saifur Rehman of Swat and impounded the truck No KT-4851. The accused, according to police, told interrogators that they had been smuggling the narcotics through Kohat for many years.

They said the seized consignment was to be smuggled abroad through Lahore airport. The names of the sellers and the buyers of the consignment were being kept secret to arrest other gangsters, officials said.

The SSP announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the police team involved.

WOMEN HELD: In a similar case, a police party arrested two women at a Karachi-bound coach who were allegedly carrying Charas. Police said Taj Mena and Bano, residents of Mardan, also possessed fake currency worth Rs5,640.
