RAWALPINDI, May 18: District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani has directed Adiala Jail superintendent Chaudhry Mohammad Afzal to ensure provision of all basic facilities to prisoners.

He issued these directives during a visit to the jail. He met several prisoners and asked them about existing facilities in the jail.

Mr Kiani asked the jail authorities to make sure that all prisoners were treated well. He announced that at least 100 electric fans and 20 twenty water coolers would be installed in the prison.

Meanwhile, the district Nazim, taking strong notice of water shortage in the city, directed the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) to initiate boring of 13 tubewells.

The district government has also approved issuance of tenders in this regard. An amount of Rs400 million has been allocated for the tubewells project, which includes reconstruction of sewerage lines.

The new tubewells will be installed in Model Colony, Dhoke Kala Khan, Khurram Colony, Christian Colony, Pindora, Mahmoodabad, Magistrate Colony, Muslim Town, Umarabad, Eid Gah, E-Block, Ziyarat Yousaf, Satellite Town, Mohan Pura, Hunza Colony, Liaqut Bagh and Dhoke Hakim Abad.

The RDA will also reconstruct sewerage lines in Dhoke Dalal, Muhallah Mahmmod Abad, Pindora, Angat Poora, Nazim Abad, Chistian Abad, Muhallah Akal Gar, Dhoke Ratta, Safdar Abad, and union councils 1, 3 and 9. — PPI
