KHAIRPUR, Oct 26: The convener of Khairpur district council Sher Mohammad Phulpoto presided over a session of the council at district council hall here on Friday.

Speaking at the session the district Nazim Ms Nafisa Shah said that no stone would be left unturned for the redressal of grievances of the people.

She informed the house that committees would be elected in Saturday’s session for monitoring of the working of the district government .

She added that the committees would be for education, health, development, agriculture, revenue, justice, price control, sports, culture, accounts and other sectors and would include public safety committee.

Some members moved their proposals which would come up for discussion in Saturday’s session.

The ADLG Khairpur explained the local government ordinance. Executive District Officer revenue Khairpur also explained the tax ordinance.

The session was largely attended by the members and government officers.

JAIL PROTEST: The prisoners of central jail, Khairpur, protested and refused to return to their barracks on Friday.

The jail administration called a heavy police contingent to control the situation.

The prisoners were protesting against the non-production of under trial prisoners in the courts for the hearings of their cases for a couple of days.

Later, when they were assured for their production in the courts, they ended their protest.

When contacted, the jail administration said that they did not have enough oil for vehicles to take the prisoners to the courts.

ACCIDENTS: Two persons died and two were seriously injured on Friday night in three separate road accidents.

He was admitted to a local hospital where he succumbed to injuries on Friday.

In another incident, a labourer identified as Kehar Solangi was hit to death by a speedy bus on the National Highway near Kumb when he was going to Kumb on bicycle.

The bus driver escaped leaving the bus (P-1140) on the spot.

Later, the relatives of the deceased reached the site and staged demonstration.

In the third incident, two motorcyclists were seriously injured when their motorcycle was hit by a bus on the Kot Laloo-Nawabshah road near Kumb, taluka Kot Diji.

The injured were Pehalwan, a wrestler, and Bahadur Shanbani, a primary teacher. They were admitted to civil hospital Khairpur in critical state.

WATER PROTEST: A large number of members of Sindh Hari Committee staged demonstration and protest sit-in on the Bungalow-Chundko road for two hours. They also observed token hunger strike.

They were protesting against the rotation system of irrigation water in taluka Nara.

They demanded of the SIDA to immediately terminate the rotation system and that the owners of the cotton factories be made bound to pay Rs780 per 40kg for cotton produce.
