USAID, WB team visits Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA, Feb 22: A delegation of the USAID and the World Bank met with noted industrialists, traders, agriculturists and educationists, besides parliamentarians and heads of government functionaries here on Sunday.

The delegation discussed the ways to boost the economic growth and announced including Gujranwala in 13 big cities of Pakistan. The head of the USAID team Ms Amymeyer, also director of Economic Growth in the US, said that a business project 2009-2014 was proposed to help out the local business community.

MNA Khurram Dastagir, district nazim Fiaz Chattha, DCO Dr Pervaiz Ahmad Khan and heads of government functionaries were also present in the briefing.

MNA Khurram Dastagir proposed the USAID delegation to help the local business community by providing them small power generating plants.

THRASHED: Around three highway policemen were thrashed by six people over a row of checking their vehicle on Sialkot Road on Sunday.

Reports said that highway patrol police intercepted a car near Glotian village. Hot words were exchanged when police asked car riders for a thorough search. Falling into a rage, car riders started beating police officials and also stripped them. As a result, policemen Rafiq, Abid and Navid sustained injuries. Later, a police contingent reached there and arrested accused Adnan, Ramzan, Inayat, Saleem, Jamshed and Shakoor. The police claimed that car riders were drunk.
