LARKANA, May 13: Larkana police have claimed to made a breakthrough in tracing the gang allegedly behind the burglary of artifact from Moenjodaro Museum.

Abdul Ahad Sangri, the District Police Officer, told Dawn on Monday that the culprits have been traced.

However, he said that it was premature to disclose their whereabouts. He said so far three persons have been arrested, including Khamiso Brohi — a watchman at the museum.

DPO Larkana, Ghulam Nabi Memon, said that a gang led by Ali Dost Brohi, a notorious criminal, is said to be behind the robbery of artifacts.

He said three suspects Waheed Lund, Babu Sheikh and Liaquat Shaikh, who were earlier arrested on suspicion, have been released.

CUSTODIAL DEATH: Mukhtar Ahmed was allegedly killed in the police custody of Civil Lines police station under mysterious circumstances here on Monday.

Hubdar Ali, deceased’s brother, alleged that his brother had died of police torture in Civil Lines police station. He said that SHO Ghulam Abbas Gadhi had arrested him from the Sehar railway station about six days back, and was being tortured in the police custody.

However, the dead body lying in the morgue carried no signs of torture.

Meanwhile, the SHO Civil Lines in his report to the Office of Police Surgeon, CMCH, has claimed that Mukhtar Ahmed Brohi had died of cardiac arrest due to heatwave in the lock-up.

ARRESTED: The Mahota police on Monday arrested Hamid Chandio and Zeb Chandio from Itbar Chandio village and allegedly recovered a Kalashnikov, a single-barrel gun and ammunition from their possession.
