SAHIWAL, Nov 14: Tariq Mehmood Khan assumed the charge of first commissioner of the newly-created Sahiwal division here on Friday.

Belonging to the district management group (DMG), Mr Khan has a vast experience of serving on various important administrative positions.

Officials of the Sahiwal district administration warmly greeted the new commissioner.

Sahiwal has become the ninth division of Punjab, which consists of three districts -- Okara, Pakpattan and Sahiwal.

The Zila Council guesthouse has been converted into Commissioner Office while the Irrigation guesthouse into official residence of the new commissioner. A building department official said that around Rs3 million were being spent on the construction and renovation of both guesthouses.

It may be mentioned that all nine commissioners in the Punjab assumed their charge on Friday.
