HYDERABAD, Oct 6: About two dozen students of Sindh, Mehran and Liaquat universities of Jamshoro, belonging to Meghwar community, staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Monday.

They were protesting against Nagarparkar police of Tharparkar district for their failure to arrest an influential Kolhi, who along with his accomplices, had forcibly occupied the houses of poor Meghwar community members in Kasbo village of Nagarparkar taluka.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Prem Kumar Malhi, Dr Khatumal, Mukesh Kumar Chohan and others said that ten days ago, Dingo Kolhi along with his accomplices attacked Kasbo village, tortured Meghwar women, deprived them of their ornaments and occupied their houses at gunpoint.

They said that a case was registered against Dingo Kolhi but police were avoiding to arrest him.

They said that Dingo Kolhi was threatening the villagers with dire consequences if they did not withdraw the case. They said that the affected Kolhis had taken shelter in the houses of their relatives in Naukot and other villages.

They said the Meghwars had been protesting for the last ten days but the authorities had failed to take notice of their protest.

They said that if justice was not restored to the Meghwars, they will stage a protest sit-in outside the Sindh chief minister’s house.
