NAWABSHAH, July 24: Members of Irrigation Workers Union held a demonstration outside the press club on Thursday in protest against irrigation department’s denial of quota in jobs for the children of the retired and deceased employees.

The protesters led by Haji Wahid Bux and others said that the department had been recruiting for a number of vacant posts but despite repeated requests, the children of the deceased and retired employees had not been allowed to appear in tests or interviews.

Meanwhile, dozens of work charge employees of Scarp staged a demonstration outside their office, seeking regularisation of services.

The protesters said that more than 465 employees had been working on contract for the past 13 years but the department had not bothered to regularise their services.—Correspondent
