MURREE, June 9: The anti-corruption department has booked four contractors and four staffers of the Town Municipal Administration (TMA) for alleged corruption and substandard roadworks.

Officials in Murree police, on condition of anonymity, told this correspondent that the TMA staffers against whom cases had been registered were sub-engineers. They said Mohammad Khan, the only contractor arrested by the police, was handed over to the anti-corruption department and shifted to Adiala Jail. Rest of the contractors and TMA staffers had gone underground to escape arrest.

PML-N President and Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif had recently expressed anger at large-scale illegal constructions and poor condition of roads in Murree.
