National hockey trials tomorrow

LAHORE: Two-day trials to select the Pakistan senior hockey team for the Azlan Shah Cup as well as the European tour will be held on April 21-22 at the National Hockey Stadium here.

The Azlan Shah Cup will be played in Ipoh, Malaysia from May 8-18.

Subsequently, the team will also tour Europe to play preparatory matches in Germany, France and Belgium to prepare for the Beijing Olympics.

Thereafter, the team will fly to Dublin, Ireland to take part in a 4-nation hockey tournament from June 11-15 wherein, besides Pakistan, host Ireland, Olympic qualifiers Great Britain and Canada will form the line-up.

A spokesman of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) said here on Saturday that the trials will commence at 3:30pm in the afternoon at outer ground of the National Stadium.

The trials will be watched by chairman selection committee Islahuddin and members Syed Muddasar Asghar and Samiullah as well as chief coach Khwaja Zakauddin and Secretary PHF Khalid Mahmood.—APP
