HYDERABAD, April 19: The chairman, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, Imran Khan, has said that his party was supporting the presidential referendum out of compulsion because the PTI did not want to see the return of ‘corrupt Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif’ on the political arena.

He was addressing the public in Mehrab Khan Talpur goth in Chukhi, some 45 kms from here, on Thursday night. Later, he also talked to journalists.

He said that President Pervez Musharraf had blocked the way of corrupt and inept rulers like Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, who had hijacked democracy in the country.

He said that the political status quo in the country appeared to be breaking.

He lambasted these two leaders for destroying the essence of democracy, and added that the country was heading “towards a change”.

He was accompanied by the secretary general, PTI, Mairaj M. Khan, the president, PTI (Sindh), Dr Arif Alvi, and Mir Hyder Ali Khan Talpur.

He said that there were divergent views over the referendum whether it was constitutional or unconstitutional.
