MULTAN, Feb 23: The ignominious defeat of the PML-Q in the Feb 18 elections has put at stake the seats of many nazims and naib nazims in the country, and the city district nazim, Multan, is no exception.

Multan city district nazim Mian Faisal Mukhtar may face a no-confidence move within a few days as a group of nazims has become active against him, it is learnt.

This group has asked the city district nazim to resign from his office or ready to face the music.

Sources said that a meeting of over 25 members of the district assembly was held at the residence of union council nazim No 8 Dr Mushtaq on Friday where oath was taken from them for the removal of the district nazim.

Those attended the meeting included nazims of UC-56 Asif Dehar, Moazzam Kamran Babar (UC-39), Malik Muhammad Aslam Dogar (UC-20), Shakeel Hussain Labar (UC-55), Malik Faiz Rasool Rijwana (UC-5), Aslam Saeed Qureshi (UC-45), Muhammad Amir Abbas (UC-94) Mian Khalid Bashir (UC-83), Ejaz Shah (UC-78), Malik Mushtaq Shajra (UC-58), Muhammad Ahmed Gujar (UC-76), Ameer Ahmed Bosan (UC-74), Malik Zulfiqar Ali Khakhi (UC-108), Mian Azhar Maqbool Bhutta (UC- 52), Moazma Hasnain, Amina Sial, Qurban Fatima, Robina Sheikh and others.

Moazma Hasnain said that she had always raised her voice against wrong policies of the district nazim who showed discrimination in the distribution of development funds.

She said the district nazim had the work on development schemes stopped of those nazims who had not supported the PML-Q candidates, especially his brother Mian Fazal Mukhtar, contested for NA-150.

Earlier, she said, the number of nazims opposing the district nazim could be numbered on fingertips, but the situation had changed drastically and the members once being considered very close to the district nazim were also joining her group.

Qurban Fatima, who had resigned from PML-Q provincial vice-president’s slot (women chapter) some time back, claimed that more than 40 union nazims had joined a newly-formed “Multan Dost Group” and assured their support for the no-confidence move.

She said that she had left the party because she felt that the PML-Q leadership was not giving respect to workers and want only capitalists in the party.

Tariq Naeemullah, a local PML-N leader, said that after the humiliating defeat of PML-Q candidates, especially of Mian Fazal Mukhtar, the district nazim should morally resign because the people had rejected them with a ballot power.

He said the people of Multan had rejected the politics of opportunity and capitalism. He alleged that the district nazim had involved the corrupt mafia in development schemes. District nazim Mian Faisal Mukhtar was unavailable to offer his comments.
