MUZAFFARGARH, Jan 7: Former chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi will visit Thatta Gurmani, Kotaddu, on Tuesday (today) to address an election rally as well as to bring about reconciliation between a Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) candidate and the Kotaddu tehsil nazim.

Dawn learnt through sources that Mian Khalid Gurmani, the PML-Q candidate for NA-177, complained to Mr Elahi, PML-Q Punjab president, about the “non-cooperation” of Kotaddu Tehsil Nazim Malik Rafique Khar with PML-Q candidates.

As Mr Elahi was serious in defeating Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Hina Rabbani Khar at any cost, he arranged his visit to Kotaddu, sources said. After Mr Elahi announced his visit to Kotaddu, the tehsil nazim became active in the party matters and asked all naib nazims to welcome Mr Elahi here at Thatta Gurmani.

Dawn learnt it were not only local boy resources being used for the tour of Mr Elahi, but Revenue Department officials had also been told to be present at the meeting.

One naib tehsildar, seeking not to be quoted by name, said his senior officers had told him to be present at the public gathering with all his subordinate patwaris.

Mr Gurmani is contesting election against Ms Khar, a former state minister. Mr Elahi will also meet the PML-Q candidates from the district.

Nawabzada Iftikhar Ahmad Khan, the son of the late Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, who is PML-Q candidate for NA-178, said he would also join the public gathering of Mr Elahi with a big rally. He said he had hoisted the flag of the PML-Q at his Saif Nagar residence.

Nawabzada Iftikhar is contesting elections against his brother, Nawabzada Mansoor Ahmad Khan, Pakistan Democratic Party chairman, and PPP candidate Jamshed Dasti.

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Pervaiz Elahi addressed an election meeting in Rahim yar Khan on Monday and blamed the PPP and PML-N for riots that followed the assassination of Ms Bhutto on Dec 27.

He claimed that the PPP had been reduced to Zardari House and people would not vote for the looters in the upcoming elections.

He said the PML would form governments in all the four provinces besides in centre which would continue the process of development.
