Shabbir wins seniors tennis title

KARACHI, Nov 25: Shabbir Gul defeated Rafi Derbari 6-4, 6-4 to win the 35 plus singles title and doubles crown in Pakistan international seniors tennis championship late Saturday night, says a press release.

In the doubles event, pairing with Rafi beat the top seed Altaf Husain and Shahid Husain also in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.The six-day event had players from seven countries, Pakistan, Hungary, USA, Sri Lanka, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Seniors Tennis Association announced that national seniors championship would be held in Quetta next year.

Results (finals):

35 plus singles: Shabbir Gul bt Rafi Derbari 6-4, 6-4.

45 plus singles: Tahir Gul bt Karim Gul Agha 7-6, 6-4.

55 plus singles: Jamil Khan bt Saeed Mir 6-2, 6-2.

35 plus doubles: Shabbir Gul/Rafi Derbari bt Altaf Husain/Shahid Husain 7-5, 6-2.

45 plus doubles: Khwaja Masroor/Shahid Aziz Mania bt Shahid Husain/Tariq Aziz 6-4, 6-3.
