HYDERABAD, Nov 8: A PPP leader and MNA from Jamshoro, Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur has asked the Environmental Protection Agency to save Indus water from contamination and pollution.In a statement faxed to Dawn here on Thursday, he said due to shortage of water downstream Kotri, the Indus River had been turned into dirty pond and sand dunes can be seen in the bed of river.

He said sewerage of Hyderabad, Qasimabad and Latifabad and poisonous water of power stations and pharmaceutical companies was being disposed of in River Indus. This had created environmental hazard, he said and added: “The situation has been further aggravated due to the entry of thousands of buffalos in Indus every day.”

He demanded ban on entry of buffaloes and release of water downstream Kotri as agrarian economy depended on Indus River.

MARRIAGE HALL: District Nazim Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed owners of marriage halls to make adequate parking arrangements during functions to avoid traffic jams. He said the district government was constructing asphalt roads but many complaints were received from the public of traffic jams outside the marriage halls because of haphazard parking of vehicles. Even ambulances and fire brigades get stuck up, he said.
