LARKANA, Oct 6: Larkana witnessed a mixed reaction over the re-election of President Gen Pervez Musharraf for the second term in the office on Saturday.

However the PPP that had boycotted the presidential election remained quiet in Larkana on the day though it had begun decorating city with tri-colour party flags, banners and wall posters to welcome Ms Benazir Bhutto on 18th October.

The activists of JUI, led by Nasir Mehmood Soomro general secretary of the MMA Larkana district, took out a procession against the election process and declared it unconstitutional.

Heavy contingent of police blocked the protesters at the Naudero chowk from further proceeding to the city and told them that it would be in violation of the Section 144.

However, the workers of the PML(N) and the Khaksar Tehrik led by Babu Sarfraz Jatoi and Dr Sabhiya Mughal succeeded in taking out procession and reaching the Jinnahbagh’s gate.

They termed the election as illegal from the assemblies that were about to complete their tenure. They said that the assemblies could not vote for president for the second term.

The PML (N) workers also staged protest demonstrations in Shahdadkot. Meanwhile, a partial strike, responding to the call of the APDM was observed in Larkana on Saturday.

On the other hand, the district nazim Larkana Mohammad Bakhsh Arijo, naib nazim Syed Ali Raza Shah Rashdi, taluka nazim Larkana Qurban Ali Abbasi, and others congratulated President Gen Pervez Musharraf for his re-election.

They took out a procession from office of the district nazim.

The workers of the PML (Q) also joined the procession which terminated outside the Jinnahbagh’s gate.

The speakers appreciated the policies of President Gen Pervez Musharraf and said that his efforts had elevated the county’s image in the world.

They said that President Musharraf had corrected the country’s economy and through the power devolution plan and built a new network of services at the grassroots level.
